EVER seen a policeman blush? Many did on Saturday. Bangalore's tough police commissioner Shankar Mahadev Bidari sat squirming in his seat at a fashion show on Saturday. Models catwalked in skimpy wear as he turned red in embarrassment.u00a0

Bidari, who admitted it was the first ever fashion show he had seen live, ended up delivering a talk on Indian culture.

"I have never sat through such a show in my life," he told MiD DAY.

Bidari has earlier attended events hosted by the scion of the Mysore royal family, Srikantadatta Wodeyar. "That was out of friendship," he said. "I present the prizes and come away, and don't stay for the model show."

Vogue Institute of Fashion Technology's event had models dressed in summer wear that revealed, in many cases, the models' cleavage.

The show, called Glamourama, showcased wardrobe and jewellery designs by students at the Chowdaiah Hall.
The organisers tried to put Bidari at ease by forcing him on stage for a talk in middle of the show. Initially hesitant, Bidari launched a speech on how fashion should derive from Indian elements.

He watched 15 sequences uneasily, but a designer sari brought back the smile on his face.

"Yes, he initially felt shy, but enjoyed it towards the end," said Jameela, PRO for the institute. "We invite the police commissioner to the event every year."
