Come Sunday and 80-100 young bikers from Pune and Mumbai will be travelling to Vikramgadh to light up a bunch of remote villages in the country. ‘Light for Life’, a social campaign, endeavours to provide more than 90 solar lamps to more than four remote villages of Vikramgadh.

Rohit Upadhyay, organiser of the campaign, said, “This is our way to give back to society. While the whole country celebrates the festival of lights, there are a few remote places that don’t have power, not even for their school-going children. This campaign is our initiative to change that. The activity is spread over the next three months but this Sunday, all of us bikers will go there on a one-day expedition to distribute lanterns and spend some time with the villagers.”

To lend support to the initiative, Photokatha, a travel blog club, has joined hands with the bikers, who are busy collecting funds for the cause. So far they have collected Rs 90,000 to buy and dole out the lamps. “Each lamp costs Rs 999. We purchased them from the amount we have collected so far, but we need more contributions. We appeal to people to donate even if they cannot participate in the biking event. They can donate online or via cheque. We want to reach out to as many villages as we can and this will happen only when with generous contributions,” said Rutavi Mehta of Photokatha.

Surojit Sadhu, a participant from Pune, is excited to be associated with the social cause. He said, “People do not look upon kindly on the biker community. We want to show them that the event is not just about biking. We know the travails that affect the common man and we are sensitive towards it. From Pune, we expect 30-35 bikers to participate in the campaign on Sunday. We have been associated with such social causes and hope to get more people involved in it.”
