Blast victim's father again fails to encash compensation

The father of Binita Gadani, who died in the German Bakery bomb blast, yesterday spent a whole day trying to encash the compensation cheque he got, but had to return to Mumbai empty handed. Bipin Gadani, father of Binita, was asked to redeposit the cheque another day after being made to run around the whole day by an State bank of India clerk for things that were not required, said BJP worker Raju Bharade.

Binita, an engineer working with a city-based IT firm, died in the German Bakery terrorist attack on Februay 13. Binita's father had received a cheque on March 17 but could not encash it then as the government reportedly misspelt Binita's name in the documents.

Then, BJP MLAs Girish Bapat and Yogesh Sagar raised the issue in the state assembly. "We were expecting that Bipin Gadani may get his due from SBI at least now," Bapat told MiD DAY yesterday.

After he got the cheque a second time with corrections, Gadani was told by the bank clerk he should also get the signature of the tehsildar, said Bharade.

Gadani went to the tehsildar, who said his signature was not required. Bharade said Gadani went back to the bank and the clerk agreed to do the needful without the tehsildar's signature, but by that time the bank working hours were over.
