Award-winning Bollywood photojournalist Raju Upadhyay died in a road accident at Bhadohi in UP on Thursday. His last rites were performed yesterday night. The police has arrested the driver who was driving the truck that rammed his bike.
The incident took place when Upadhyay was going to the market on his bike. A close friend of his, GC Tripathi, also a photographer, said Upadhyay had come to the village to teach photography to children.
Upadhyay had shot photos of several celebrities and Bollywood celebrities such as Aamir Khan and Shahrukh Khan who had also gifted him a digital camera. He was very fond of Amitabh Bachchan, Dilip Kumar, and Raj Kapoor.
The police reached the spot after the incident and took possession of the truck and detained the driver. Upadhyay's wife Asha has filed a lawsuit against the truck driver. She is an English teacher at Dayawati Punj Model School of Sitamarhi, where Upadhyaya taught photography. He was recently honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Excellence Award.
