The heritage complex is currently under renovation with most of the departments shifted to "Nabanna" building in the neighbouring Howrah district.
Bomb disposal and sniffer dogs were dispatched and the building was evacuated after an email sent to the city police headquarters claiming the bombs were planted.
"So far, nothing has been found. It seems to be a hoax," said Joint Commissioner of Police Rajiv Mishra.
