Local police have arrested two youths for their alleged involvement in chain-snatching crimes in suburban Kalwa and recovered ornaments worth Rs 2 lakh from them.
The arrested duo identified as Aliraja Kambarali Sayyed alias Jaffari alias Irani (30) and his brother Mohamad Ali Kambarali Sayyed alias Jaffri alias Irani (25) were apprehended on May 23 for their role in as many as six chain-snatching incidents, Crime Branch police inspector Chandrakant Joshi said today.u00a0

The duo, who would mostly operate in Kalwa, would relieve their victims of their jewellery while engaging them in discussion, police said.
The accused have been booked under sections 420 (cheating and dishonesty), 170 (personating a public servant) of the IPC, Joshi said.
The police recovered a mangalsutra and other ornaments, including rings, lockets etc, collectively weighing around 122 gm, worth Rs 2,03,000 from the duo, he said.
The accused were later produced before a local court which remanded them in police custody till tomorrow.
