The Rohini-based accused was on the run for two weeks before being arrested

A woman living in the neighbourhood caught the accused in the act and called the police. The accused, who was on the run for two weeks, was finally arrested on Tuesday. The weapon used is yet to be recovered. The incident was reported from Rohini.

A senior police officer said the builder has been identified as Jagat Singh. "The incident took place in Abhilasha Apartment in Sector 23 area of Rohini. The accused was staying here with his family. A woman was employed with the family as domestic help for several years. The dog used to roam in the colony and often barked at the domestic help and once bit her," said the official.
He also said the maid complained to Jagat about the dog. Angered by this, the accused decided to kill the canine. The police officer said the next morning Jagat sat outside his flat with a pistol. "Neighbours said Jagat was looking for the dog but it was nowhere to be seen. So he waited outside his flat," said the police official. Cops said as soon as the dog returned, the accused ran downstairs and opened fire at the canine.
Cruel intentions
"The dog cried out loudly, writhing in pain. Laxmi, wife of a local property dealer witnessed the incident and reportedly tried to stop him, but by then Jagat had fired a second bullet. Laxmi then made a call to Police Control Room (PCR)," said the police official.
The official said that the accused had fled from the crime scene. Police conducted a post-mortem of the dog at a government hospital and lodged an FIR under section 429 of IPC and 25, 27 of Arms Act. "Jagat was arrested but we have not recovered the pistol which was used to kill the dog," said the police official.
This reporter tried to talk to the accused but he said that he did not want tou00a0 comment. Satpal, Laxmi's husband, who got the FIR registered, only said that the builder needn't have killed the canine.
