The Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE), on Tuesday, announced the dates for the annual Teacher Eligibility Test (TET). The exam will be held all through the country on September 21. However, in view of the current situation in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, the board has decided to postpone the TET exam for candidates in that state to another date.

After the implementation of the Right to Education (RTE) Act, the education department has made it compulsory for all teachers to pass the TET test in order to be eligible to teach in schools. The purpose of the test is for teachers to upgrade their skills and at the same time also focus on improving the quality of teaching in schools. TET exams have been a tough challenge for the state teachers, who have been struggling to pass the exam. In 2012, only 0.4% across the country had managed to pass the test.
The next date of examination, for city centre Srinagar, J&K, will be announced by the board at the earliest for which a public notice will be issued for the benefit of the candidates. For further details and updates, candidates can log on to www.ctet.nic.in.
