For the airports across the country will soon be equipped with scanners that can detect the liquid explosives and also 'see-through' the shoes of the passengers, saving them the trouble of taking them off during security checksu00a0 "In view of increasing threats to airports across the world, the January 24 terror strike at Moscow's Domodedovo airport being the latest example, it was decided to enhance the security measures at airports.
The prominent among them will include installing shoe scanners and liquid explosive detectors at all airports. Other measures include thorough checking of people based on random profiling, deployment of large baggage scanners and even sniffer dog squads at the airports," said the CISF Director General N R Das.
He added that visitors to the airport will not be allowed to carry any baggage into the terminals.
According to a security expert, scanners can be more effective way for airport security staff to identify liquid explosives. The scanner uses magnetic resonance to determine the molecular makeup of liquids, and is so sensitive that it can distinguish between red and white wine.
Talking about installation of body scanners at the airports, Das said that exposure of human body to the X-rays that these scanners emit and 'certain other shortcomings' have delayed their installation. "Only one body scanner has been brought to Delhi airport. We have tested it but there are certain shortcomings, which I cannot reveal now," he said.
