Planting saplings at your locality is now just a phone call away!
Trees for Free, a city-based NGO working to increase greenery, has been planting saplings for almost three years. All the volunteers require is a small plot of land for planting.
Phone-a-plant
"We get an average of 5 to 10 calls a day," said Janet S K Yegneswaran, founder, Trees for Free. "Our volunteers plant saplings and then it's for the people to take care."
The organisation that came into being in 2005 has planted 9,898 plants so far. It consists of 90 odd members.
All of them are IT professionals. Students from Oxford Dental College and Jyoti Nivas College also work with them.
Hand in hand
The forest department supplies saplings to the organisation while techies and private firms fund the activities.
Environmentalists are beaming at the initiative. "We support them. We are with whatever any group does to increase green. They can expect full co-operation from us," said A N Yelappa Reddy, an environmentalist.u00a0u00a0
