The CR authorities will be asking Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) to carry out this work at a cost of Rs 7.5 crore. One rake will be used to run seven to eight 15-car services in both directions between 7 am and 10 pm. Since November 2011, all the 785 mainline suburban services on the CR are 12-car trains.

While an average 9-car train has a seating capacity of 876 and 1,752 standees, a 12-car train has a seating capacity of 1,168 and 2,336 standees. Some of the stations where 15-car services will be operated are — CST, Byculla, Dadar, Kurla, Ghatkopar, Thane, Dombivli and Kalyan.u00a0
