GD, interviews to begin tomorrow as consortium of institutes in state decides to wait couple of days for more applications
Theu00a0group discussion and personal interview (GD/PI) rounds for students eyeing top management institutes in the state were supposed to start yesterday, but have been postponed by a couple of days in the city and Mumbai. The Consortium of Management Education (COME) had announced the Centralised Admission Process (CAP), which is applicable for PGDM AICTE-approved two-year full-time courses. Around 52 MBA institutes in the state and 26 in the city are part of the consortium.
Now, because of low number of applications, the GD/PI process will start from Friday. According to officials from COME, the website has received about 1,600 hits in the past few days, since the time the announcement was made on June 3. "We have received around 300 applications so far. We have, therefore, postponed the date of GD/PI to June 10. We are expecting many more forms in the next two days," Dr Apoorva Palkar, executive president, COME, said. "After we announced, there was a weekend and banks were closed. We are not accepting forms till we receive the demand draft."
She added that on Friday they would be in a better position to give the actual number of applications they had received. An education consultant, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said there was marked reduction in the number of applications because of reasons like availability of more options outside the state. "This year the flow of students is very low. We are witnessing some tough times and therefore those applying are also low. There are various reasons for low flow of students but one of major reason is some top institutes opening up in each state," the consultant said.
