28-yr-old Chaitanya Datla to be first woman to sail on an Indian Navy warship
Defeating over 50,000 candidates from all over the country, 28-year-old Chaitanya Datla is all set to create history by becoming the first woman to sail on an Indian Navy warship. After undergoing a month of tough exercises and tests, the human resources executive from Bengaluru has been declared the winner of the National Geographic channel's "Mission Navy: Lehron Ke Sartaj" contest.

With this initiative, National Geographic provided five civilians including three women, the unique opportunity to be a part of the Indian Navy.
Speaking about her win, she said, "It has been a privilege to experience what it takes to be in the Indian Navy.u00a0 I always aspired to be a part of the armed forces and Nat Geo's programme helped me realise it. I also feel that this is a triumph for all Indian women. For us nothing is impossible."
The programme offered participants a unique opportunity to be a part of the landmark docu-reality series. "We are proud of the series. We received unprecedented response from viewers across the country and are delighted on Datla's remarkable achievement," said Nikhil Mirchandani, managing director, National Geographic Channel, South Asia.
