As proposal for CCTVs awaits Home Minister's nod, Bar Association members point out other security risks on court premises

Even as the Delhi blast sends shivers across the country, the proposal for the installation of CCTV cameras in Shivajinagar Court premises awaits a formal nod from State Home Ministry.

This is reportedly a major cause of concern as there were no CCTV cameras installed in premises of the Delhi High court, where the blasts ripped the city.

Interestingly, former PBA president Milind Pawar informed that many private sponsors had approached the Pune Bar Association (PBA) members for the installation of CCTV camera, yet no decision was taken, as the state government's approval was necessary.

Highlighting another issue of security breach, PBA members claimed that vehicles parked around the Shivajinagar court were not being monitored.u00a0

Pawar said that vehicles were not being monitored and visitors freely parked their vehicles in the court premises.

Pawar maintained, "Last May, when a murder took place around the court premises, the association had written to Home Minister R R Patil asking him to tighten the security."

Meanwhile lawyers claimed that though each of the four gates is secured by metal detectors and police personnel, the door frame metal detectors work intermittently and police do not frisk those who enter the court.

Advocate Amol Kajale Patil, told MiD DAY, "Security is a serious concern and we have observed that visitors are not asked to present an identity card,"he added.

Vikas Dhage-Patil, PBA Vice president said, "We have submitted a letter to district judge requesting him to install adequate CCTV cameras in the premises."

Security absent
Small cause court building has a door frame metal detector installed near Court number nine, while no such security provision is present at the gate facing Sancheti Hospital.

Door frame metal detector is located in the central portion of Main Building, but no such provision at the gate on the right.

Visitors are allowed to park their vehicles without getting them scanned.
