The city is gearing up for the opulent wedding ceremony of the niece of former chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh next week. Daughter of Diliprao Deshmukh, an MLC and former minister of relief, rehabilitation, sports, youth welfare and protocol in the state, Gauravi is all set to tie the knot at the Balewadi Sports Complex on March 12.

The bridegroom is Dr Atul Bhosale from Satara district who belongs to the family of Yashwantrao Mohite, a veteran congress leader.

The wedding will be attended by some prominent names in the political and business fraternity. Invitations have already been sent to Members of Parliament in New Delhi.u00a0u00a0

The preparations for the wedding have been going on for the past one month. Sourcesu00a0 from the sports fraternity said the workers building the pandals have been staying on the premises of the sports complex. The wedding celebration will go on for three days and receptions will be later held in Latur.u00a0

"All the rooms at the sports complex have been booked for the workers and more than 100 people are working on the pandals. The lavish interiors are going to be made up in Mughal style," a source said. "They had just started digging up the place a month ago when we had gone to watch some football matches. We were concerned that they do not give any of the ground for the wedding preparations."

The guests are expected to be served lavish Maharashtrian cuisine by caterers from Aurangabad, while caterers from Mumbai will dish out international cuisine.

A city caterer revealed that food would be served to more than 10,000 people. "It's a big contract and two sets of caterers are handling the wedding. They will shift to the city a couple of days in advance."

City designer who has designed the bride's outfits in bits and pieces said the bride will wear a traditional Maharashtrian saree. "We have also designed a few heavy salwar-kameez and couple of lehengas which are light."
