Disproportionate mixture of dust and tar used to resurface roads makes the stretches at Lal Mahal area, Kumathekar and Shivaji Road sticky, thereby causing inconvenience to pedestrians and motorists
The road department of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) had blamed incessant rains for the bad condition of city roads, and had promised that repair work will be carried out as soon as the rains stop.

The pedestrians realised that the civic body has carried out some resurfacing work yesterday when their footwear began sticking to the tar at Lal Mahal area, Kumathekar and Shivaji Road.
We found out that the road department hadn’t mixed tar and dust in right proportion,” said Ravindra Dhangekar, a local corporator.u00a0He immediately informed the ward office and the concerned engineers who reached the spot and put a layer of sand dust on that sticky tar.u00a0
Under control
“The situation was under control in two-and-half hours. Fortunately, no mishap occurred,” Dhangekar said adding that it the fault of civic engineers who didn’t mix the tar and dust properly.
“Ideally, before asphalting the roads, the contractors are expected to have a detailed map of underground cables, water lines etc. Unfortunately, neither the contractor, nor PMC cares about it,” alleged Vijay Kumbhar, a RTI activist said.
Currently the road department is carrying out resurfacing work on several across the city.u00a0
