The 16-year-old student of SNDT University was allegedly beaten up by three girls from the same institution and an unidentified boy, when she refused to give them her geography and EVS projects
While disagreements over intellectual property are common in schools and colleges populated by competitive kids, one such skirmish turned ugly on Tuesday, when a 16-year-old FYJC student of SNDT University was allegedly beaten up by three female classmates and an unidentified boy outside the college campus, when she refused to give them her projects.

Sheela Nair (name changed) is a student in SNDT University in the Arts stream. According to he friends, she was ready with her all projects for FYJC that were due for submission over the past few days. She had already submitted her psychology project on Monday and was ready to submit her EVS and geography projects on Tuesday. During the afternoon break around 2 pm, three girls, all classmates of Sheela in the same college, approached her, demanding that she give them the projects that she was yet to submit. When she refused, they beat her up, claimed Sheela’s best friend.
A classmate rushed Sheela to Sion Hospital after she was found lying outside the college grounds, writhing in pain. One of Sheela’s friends said, “She was badly beaten up by the three of her classmates and a boy who isn’t a student of the college. She was taken to hospital when one of our friends saw her lying on the road outside college.” Dr R Verma, assistant dean of Sion Hospital, said, “The girl has an alleged history of assault and was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday afternoon. She has sustained blunt injuries to her abdomen and chest. Her condition is stable. There are no signs of any injury to her private parts.”

Suresh Parab, senior inspector of Matunga police station, said, “We have registered an FIR against three girls who are Sheela’s classmates, who she alleged have beaten her up along with an unidentified boy. They have been booked on charges of wrongful restraint, rash and negligent act, assault, and threat with dire consequences. The three girls are minors so they will be taken to juvenile court. The matter will be investigated.”
Suman Jain, principal of the college, said, “The incident happened outside the college. So it has nothing to do with the college. It’s just a regular quarrel that happened between the girls. We have a feeling that the girls who assaulted the victim may not turn up in college again. We have cooperated with the Matunga police.” u00a0
