Coimbatore: The Coimbatore District Home Guards today sent 1.5 tonnes of relief materials to Chennai by an IAF Aircraft.
A District Home Guards release claimed this was the first time in the history of the Tamil Nadu Home Guards that a unit is sending such materials by IAF aircraft.
The District Home Guards in association with Sumangali Jewellers had collected the materials including 15,000 chapattis, biscuits, bread, jam, torch lights, sanitary napkins, plastic mats, medicines, besides other essentials.

The District Home Guards along with India Post had collected three truck loads of materials, which were handed over to the ADGP Home Guards AK Vishwanathan and Inspector General K Periaiah, who were actively involved in distributing relief materials at Chennai, a release from home guards said.
The Chennai team of Home Guards under the supervision of the ADGP and IG had fed about two lakh people in the last three and half days.
The District Home Guards has been escorting the multitude of trucks that have set out to Chennai, Cuddalore and Thiruvallur with relief materials, it said.
