To make up for the month-long delay in academic session for Std 11 students, college authorities are mulling over the idea of cutting down on holidays. The authorities feel that they have to either extend the classes or cut down on the number of Ganesh festival and Diwali holidays.
According to vice principal of Modern College Jagdish Chinchore, the idea of cutting down the number of holidays sounds more feasible. "Though we have many other options, this is our primary choice. Students will have to compromise as we have to complete the course on time."u00a0
"We had a meeting with the authorities and discussed the various choices that include either to run classes till March next year or cut short the Diwali vacation," said Dr Ravindrasinh Pardeshi, Principal, Fergusson College.
He further added that all decisions would be taken after the meeting with Deputy Directorate of Education Sunil Magar on Thursday morning.
"Various college authorities are meeting Magar regarding admission procedures and various issues that we have. During the meeting we will discuss with him how to complete the syllabus," said Pardeshi.
Classes for Std 11 students are expected to begin by August 15 and admission forms will be available from July 16. As city colleges follow centralised admission procedure, authorities believe that it will hardly take a month's time for classes to begin.
Ali Askar, a student, who is waiting for admission procedures to start, doesn't mind missing on a few holidays for the sake of college. "I am now so bored of sitting at home. I just want classes to start. It's going to be a tough year because of competition. The best students will now get into the best colleges."
