Marking the beginning of efforts to rehabilitate landslide victims in Malin village, the district administration formed the Malin Rehabilitation and Planning Committee on Saturday.

“The committee members will meet next week to decide the role and functions of the committee. However, the basic function would be to take time-to-time reviews of the rehabilitation work,” said District Collector Saurabh Rao, who will chair the
committee.

The project will begin by arranging temporary accommodation for the victims. In a recently conducted meeting with the villagers, the administration had asked the villagers to figure out a suitable place in nearby villages, where the administration can build temporary houses for them.

Rao added that a special drive would be conducted to provide ration cards, Aadhar cards, and voter’s identity cards, as most of the villagers had misplaced their documents in the landslide that killed 153 villagers and flattened 48 homes on July 30.
“Whether it is building temporary houses for them, or providing documents for identification, the administration will make sure that it reaches each victim,” said Rao.

Jobs for survivors
The committee — comprising nine members including the rehabilitation project officers — will also work towards providing the
victims job opportunities. Rao added, “The administration is making a list of the affected villagers, so that according to their age and education, employment opportunities can be provided to those who survived.”
