Computerised ration cards to be ready by end of month

The state government's ambitious project to issue computerised, barcode-based ration cards is in it's final stages, and is expected to be issued to the beneficiaries within the next six months

While replying to a query by leader of opposition in the assembly Vinod Tawade during question hour, minister of food and civil supplies minister Anil Deshmukh said that within next six months the software-generated computerised ration cards, with barcodes, would be provided to every ration cardholder across thestate.

Tawade had claimed that according to the report of financial survey of the state, it has been observed that as many as 54 lakhration cards that were distributed among people were bogus.u00a0

On this Deshmukh said that there are 1.10 lakh Public Distribution System shops across the state, and the work of computerisation of ration cards is almost finished, and within next six months the ration cards would be provided to the beneficiaries.

Considering this, Taware asked the minister to give the details to the House about the action that was being taken against the officers during whose tenure the food grains were distributed using the bogus ration cards. He also asked to give the details about how much time would be taken to complete the scheme of computerisation of the ration cards.

On this, Deshmukh assured that the computerisation work would be completed by the end of this month, and then immediately as many as 7 lakh citizens would get the benefit of food security scheme in the state.
