Only a bed was left with Sona (name changed), after her husband Naresh disowned her. Yet Naresh could not spare her a peaceful night's sleep. He burnt the bed when Sona refused to sleep with him.
The incident was reported from Neb Sarai area of southeast Delhi. The victim made a call to the PCR after which Naresh was arrested for house trespass and threatening her.
"We have arrested the accused Naresh after his wife Sona (name changed) made a call to the PCR and complained that Naresh set her bed on fire after forcibly entering her room," said a senior police officer.
Naresh allegedly used to torture Sona for dowry and thrashed her over petty issues. Unable to bear, she had complained to the Crimes Against Women Cell. An FIR was lodged against Naresh. But Naresh apologised and gave a written statement to the police that he will never harass Sona. Assured by his words Sona had withdrawn her complaint.
"When Sona took back her complaint, Naresh went back to his usual ways. He started assaulting her again.
Sona approached the National Commission for Women (NCW) for help. The NCW provided her with a room where she started staying with a friend. But Naresh insisted his wife go to bed with him. When she refused, he set her bed on fire," said the police.
