While senior authorities at the hospital allege that AK Jain and Prasanna Lodha are fit for discharge, doctors treating them claim that they need to be kept under observation
The hospital stay of convicted IPS officer A K Jain and his chartered accountant Prasanna Lodha has been extended till Thursday, according to the doctors treating them at JJ Hospital. Jain and Lodha who were recently convicted in a 13-year-old bribery case were admitted to the intensive cardiac care unit (ICCU) of JJ Hospital on Saturday.

Despite allegations by senior authorities at the hospital claiming that both the convicts are fit for discharge, doctors treating them claim that both the patients are still unstable. Jain and Lodha were brought to the hospital with complaints of chest pain and haematemesis (bouts of vomiting blood) respectively. It has been three days since their admission in the ICCU of JJ Hospital. When MiD DAY visited the hospital yesterday we found that there were a few police personnel posted outside the unit where the convicts have been admitted.
Highly placed sources at the hospital have alleged that based on the medical reports both the patients are fit for discharge and do not need any medical attention. Both the convicts have to serve their sentences in Arthur Road Jail. Though their medical reports were to be evaluated on Monday to confirm their date of discharge, their stay seems to have been extended for a few more days. Dr T P Lahane, dean of JJ hospital, said, “The doctor treating them has informed me that they are still in the ICCU and their condition is unstable. They will be discharged once their condition improves. I do not have their medical reports with me.”u00a0
Dr Hemant Gupta, senior physician, general medicine unit, is currently treating the two. He had said the medical reports of these patients will be evaluated on Monday. Dr Gupta said, “Both the patients were on IV dosage but now their condition has improved a bit and they are being given oral dosage. Some test reports were evaluated today but a couple of more tests are pending, which will take another two days. If all reports are normal the patients may be discharged by Thursday morning.”u00a0
