Police constable Ranjit Shankar Mohite (26), who is deputed to Group 2 of the SRPF, has filed a complaint in this regard. The miscreants used petrol from the constable's bike, which was parked outside. After collecting fuel, they broke into the house.
"I was in Mumbai on duty on Thursday. That day in the evening a neighbour called me and said a lot of smoke was coming out of the windows," Mohite said.
"I instructed him to break the lock and check inside. Furniture, study material, books, school certificates, police recruitment documents and other insurance documents were collected at one place and burnt. Though, there was no need to break the lock for checking in, the snitchers had used master keys for quietly removing it. My wife Kalpana was also not present, as she had gone to Kolhapur to meet her mother."
Police Inspector Pandharinath Mandhare said, "As duplicate keys were used, we are suspecting Ranjit's relatives. During the day, no other will dare to break in with this intention. There is no report of any theft, which clearly shows that, the sole intent of housebreak was to harm the Mohite family."
