Cops, who were called to Khairnar’s house found her throat and right hand wrist slit. According to them some valuables were also missing but they couldn’t certify the exact details, as Khairnar lived by herself. Police stated that the initial stages of the investigation had led them to believe that prima-facie a cop could be involved in the incident. “We have registered an offence of robbery with murder against an unknown person, and enquiries are ongoing,” said, Satish Pawar, assistant police inspector, who is investigating the case.

According to the Central Police, Khairnar was attached with Thane rural police, and had recently opted for the Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS). She also contested the recently held Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation’s (UMC) elections as an independent candidate, but lost. Khairnar is survived by her son, who lives in a building in the vicinity. u00a0
