Scam sham: Recently, JD(S) leaders had accused Chief Minister
BS Yeddyurappa and Katta Subramanya Naidu of fraudulently ordering
denotification of 6.3 acres of BDA land. File pic
The plot in question, located in the satellite town of Ullal near the Bangalore University and worth nearly Rs 100 crore, was allotted to the police after the state government acquired it in the year 2000. Thirty acres of land was acquired, out of which 10 was allotted to the KILT and the rest to the police department.
The city police had started developing the land with the intent of having a parade ground and residential quarters there. However, a group of people recently approached the government challenging the acquisition and asked for the land to be returned.
"The people who challenged the acquisition were actually land sharks who prepared the documents after taking the General Power of Attorney from the land's original owners," said a source from the police department.
"However, the government considered their plea, denotified the land and decided to return it to the original owners around two months back," he added.
KILT action
This is when the KILT swung into action and approached the High Court to get a stay on the de-notification order. The state undertaking then approached top government officials, including the Chief Minister, and managed to convince them that the people asking for the denotification were land sharks.
The supporting documents submitted by the KILT were verified by the state government in a cabinet meeting held on October 19 and a decision was taken to revoke the de-notification order Additional Commissioner of Police U Nisar Ahmed said that the land belonging to the police department has been returned but they have not received any official orders from the government in this regard.
