Giving a clean chit to the UPA government, Delhi Police, on Thursday, said no Congress or Samajwadi Party leader was involved in striking a deal with the BJP MPs
Giving a clean chit to the UPA government, Delhi Police, on Thursday, said no Congress or Samajwadi Party leader was involved in striking a deal with the BJP MPs. The Delhi Police's verdict is in direct contradiction to what Sohail Hindustani and Sanjeev Saxena, arrested in connection with the case, have been reiterating.
Saxena and Hindustani were arrested on July 17 and 20 respectively, and were sent to police remand. They were presented before the court today, where police appealed for remand of two more days. Special Judge Sangita Dhingra Sehgal, however, allowed only a day more. "Both the accused are remanded to police custody till July 22," the court said.
The mastermind
"During investigation, it has come to light that neither Congress, nor any SP leader made any effort to contact Hindustani to strike a deal with the MPs," the police said in its remand application. In the court, public prosecutor Rajeev Mohan said Hindustani Hindustani was the mastermind behind the scam.
Mohan said, "Hindustani is the main conspirator. He came to Delhi on July 20, with a list of MPsu00a0 to contact. He contacted many people, including one S P Gupta and a SP leader, whom he called Guruji."
Whistling woes?
On the other hand, Hindustani's lawyer Anand accused the police of shoddy investigation. "The police are not investigating the matter properly. They are punishing the whistle blowers to save those in power. How could the police give a clean chit at this stage?" he rued.
Singh to sing?
The Crime Branch might call Rajya Sabha member Amar Singh on Friday.
