Malleswaram MLA Dr Aswath Narayana, who came prepared with documents where the developers had built the mall on 19 acres, but the register at Rajaji Nagar and Gandhi Nagar sub-registrar office shows they were sanctioned only 13 acres on paper, making the construction questionable.
"We don't know if the documents produced by the developers during registration are genuine, but they have clearly violated the law and encroached on land belonging to the government. We would recommend the matter to CID," asserted Narayana.
The Deputy Mayor also echoed a similar sentiment. The developer's name appeared in the news last month when the corporation decided to demolish a wall for widening a road. They got a court stay order to prevent further demolition. Later at a press conference, the developers accused the councillors of harassment.
Following this, the BBMP corporator and local MLA started scouting for the documents pertaining to the land to support their claim, but were baffled to discover that large chunks of land belonging to corporation were taken over by the developer.
Deputy Mayor S Harish said, "The developers had submitted false documents and got the Transferable Development Rights (TDR) for six acres on the disputed land along the Bangalore-Tumkur road. The developers purchased the land in 2003 and the BBMP took back six acres from the 19 acres, after paying the developers TDR of Rs 300 crore."
