“There are many habits that cops need to opt out of, in order to make the locals follow the rules. We should first follow rules and then stop others from breaking it. So I have ordered the senior officers to act on this very tactfully,” said the Joint CP.
“Cops should set an example for others. Often, police officers do not wear helmets and the traffic police too never discipline or fine them,” said an officer on condition of anonymity.
Social media effect
Sources in the police department said Bharti has issued this order after several people sent him pictures of police officials violating the rule.
“Social media has become very powerful and many people have sent Bharti pictures of cops riding bikes without helmets, which has motivated this stand,” said a police officer.
While another officer said, “When traffic police catches any individual violating the rule and if a police officer riding a bike without helmet crosses them, then the person asks the traffic constable for a reason they did not fine him. So all these habits need to stop.”
