DJ Ivan has now been performing for more than a decade now and is considered as one of India's most prominent DJs. He is well-known for his versatility in music and his interactive style of playing.

How does it feel being hailed as a "pioneer" of DJing?
That is a huge compliment. I guess people say so because I have been performing for 16 years now. At the same time, there are DJs in Mumbai who have been performing for far longer than I have. Also, I am Bangalore-based, except for a few years spent in Mumbai.

Tell us about the kind of music you play.
I have mostly been into house music, but later on took up Hip-Hop, R 'n' B and other genres as well.

Tell us about the secret behind your energy.
I don't drink, smoke or lead a "typical DJ lifestyle". Instead, I practice all day and play four nights a week. My greatest thrill is playing music and having people dance to my tunes. Whether I play at a party for 50 people or 5,000 people, the enjoyment remains the same, because I love music and know how to rock a party.

You recently started producing your own music as well.
Yes. I just released the house music album "Indian Sunset" in London. It was a glitzy international affair.

What has been your most successful event so far?
Recently, I performed with DJ Tristan Garner from France, at the Bangalore Club. It was a last minute affair where the event was put together in a whiz and we played back-to-back. We shared an amazing chemistry, though we had never met before. The music that we produced that night was simply fantastic.

What can the crowds expect from your performance this weekend?
I will basically play house music. I also love interacting with the crowd around as I play.

How do you find the Pune audience?
They have a cool sense of music and I feel at home over here.
