While the school has been granted a stay order by the City Civil Court, MLA Vinod Ghosalkar has approached the Chief Minister to help the school out of the legal mess
The management of Matruchhaya School and College has produced a stay order from the city civil court against the BMC’s plan of demolishing the institution. MiD DAY had on April 2 reported how the BMC issued an ad in a local newspaper warning parents against taking admission for their wards at Matruchhaya School in Dahisar, as the building was illegal and would be torn down. Also, MLA Vinod Ghosalkar has approached Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan for help.

The ad had said that the institution is housed in an illegal building and would be demolished by June or July according to a notice served to the management under Section 351 of the BMC Act . The school has Gujarati and English-medium sections from Std I to X and another building with a college from Std XI to graduation. It has a total of 30,221 students.
Abhishek Ghosalkar, corporator and ward council chairman, said, “Vinod Ghosalkar has written a letter to the CM, requesting him to make changes in the development plan. This will save the school from demolition. It may take time, as he will have to call meetings of authorities and also take suggestions from people etc. We hope Ghosalkar’s efforts don’t go to waste.”
The CM’s PRO Satish Lalit said, “The BMC has served many such notices to illegal buildings. I don’t know if any request letter to save any school building has come to the CM. To make changes in a development plan it takes two to three years. The CM will call for meetings with authorities and there will be hearings after which he will take a decision.”
Ahmed Lalani, secretary of Matruchhaya School and College, said, “We have acquired a stay order from the city civil court on BMC’s demolition order. Now, MLA Ghosalkar is also helping us. We have all the legal documents to prove that our structure is not illegal. Parents need not worry.”u00a0
