Change seems to be the only thing permanent at the Delhi Metro. Within two days of issuing a new helpline number, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) was asked by telecom authorities to change it to '155370,'u00a0 according to an official. DMRC had announced on Sunday that the new number '155363' will be operational from January 1.
"The department of telecommunications changed the newly allotted number '155363' to '155370'. The new helpline number will be operational from the January 1," Delhi Metro spokesperson Anuj Dayal said on Tuesday.
The 24-hour helpline number '155370' will register complaints and suggestions regarding the Metro services. It will replace the existing number '128128,' which will become non-functional Jan 1", he said.
"A new number is being introduced as the DMRC was receiving many complaints from commuters that the old number did not connect on GSM and CDMA mobile phones," the official added. Metro authorities have promised that the new number will help provide easy access and speedy solutions to public queries and complaints.
Mobile users and even callers residing outside Delhi can avail the service by calling 011-155370, Dayal said, adding that the new number has been provided with caller-ID and recording facilities. However, the calls made on this service will not be toll-free.
According to Delhi Metro, the new helpline service will help old and physically challenged commuters to seek assistance from the Metro staff to provide wheelchair facility at all the stations.
