The students, however, are getting ready to take the problem head on, confirmed DUSU president Nupur Sharma.
The proposed move has provided a common ground to the opposing groups in Delhi University's student politics the BJP-backed Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad and the Congress-supported National Student's Union of India.
"I had a word with NSUI members and they have assured me if this happens, both the parties will stand together and fight it," said an ABVP member.
The building hosts a 24-hour library that is open to all students of Delhi University.u00a0 While four DUSU office bearers have their separate offices on the ground floor. On the first floor, there are rooms for section officer, cyber cafes and a reading room. The bearers had proposed to renovate the building with a proper waiting room, reception, seminar hall and other facilities.
Despite innumerable calls,u00a0 Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Deepak Pental could not be contacted. However, an official from the university administration confirmed there are plans to demolish the building soon. "Everything is planned and the process will start in the next three to four months. No alternative place has yet been decided for the DUSU office," said the official. "Though we have been asked to shift our office on a makeshift basis to the Law Faculty, we will not move from here in any condition. We will not mind moving to court in case the authorities will go ahead with their demolition plan," said DUSU vice-president Manohar Nagar.
