“The girl is recovering as expected. Her fever has come down. She is afebrile (not feverish) now,” said D K Sharma, medical superintendent of the AIIMS. “She is active and taking adequate liquids and semi-solid food. She had a good breakfast,” he said adding that her “colostomy is functioning normally”.

It could take approximately two weeks for the girl to be discharged, the doctor said, adding that they were trying their best to ensure that the girl is able to lead a normal life.

Police custody
Meanwhile, a Delhi court yesterday sent Pradeep Ram, the second accused in the five-year-old rape and torture case, to four days in police custody.

Additional Sessions Judge Sanjay Garg also issued a warrant against prime accused Manoj Kumar, directing Tihar Jail authorities to present him before the court today.

The police had sought the warrant against Kumar to confront him with Ram. Ram was arrested on Monday from Bihar’s Lakhisarai district where he was hiding at his maternal uncle’s residence.

The police said Kumar, from whose rented room the victim was rescued two days after she went missing on April 15, blamed Ram for the brutal attack on the child.

Kumar also admitted that on the day of the incident, the two had been drinking and struck up the idea of finding a girl. When they came out of the room, they saw the five-year-old playing, the police said.

Kumar said that it was he who lured the girl by offering her a chocolate, but blamed Ram for the rape. He was nabbed on Saturday from his in-laws’ house in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district. Following his two-day interrogation by the Delhi police, Kumar was sent to judicial custody till May 4. u00a0u00a0
