Raising slogans of "We want justice for J Dey" and wearing black ribbons to protest the dastardly attack on media, print and television journalists came together at the Press Club of India on Tuesday. Dey, who worked for MiD DAY, was shot dead by four unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants near his residence in Powai in Mumbai on Saturday afternoon, sending shock waves across the nation.

Senior journalist Prabhu Chawla said: "I had not met J Dey but the incident is shocking. To prevent such incidents in the future, journalists should come together. The government should provide security to journalists." "We condemn the killing of Dey and demand for CBI enquiry into this matter. Media professionals should be protected," said TR Ramachandran, President, Press Club of India.
Daipayan Halder, resident editor of MiD DAY Delhi, said: "Dey was a dear friend. But beyond personal grief, journalists have to come together and push for laws to prevent something like this happening in the future. We have to raise our voice in a collective manner so that the government sits up and takes notice." Coomi Kapoor of the Editors Guild of India, who had worked with Dey, said: "I didn't know J Dey personally even when were working together but I'm shocked by this incident. It was ghastly the way he was killed. He was a man of remarkable courage."
Dey's former colleague and Publisher of MiD DAY Delhi Narendra Tripathi, said: "I have known him for many years. He was such a humble figure. The word "no" was never there in his dictionary. He used to deliver everything he said. Action should be taken against people who killed him." Ashutosh, the Managing Editor of IBN7, said, "Although I have not worked with J Dey but this is attack on the entire fraternity. There have been attacks on south Asian journalists for quite some time and we need to collectively fight against this. If any journalist works sincerely they are bound to get threats like Saleem Shahzad, a Pakistani investigative reporter, Daniel Pearl and now J Dey. "What has happened to Dey is terribly shocking. We should raise our voice and battle for justice," said Hari Jai Singh Veteran Journalist. "CBI should be handed the case immediately as journalist were attacked in past and we will take resolution to get the culprit behind the bars," said Vijay Naik, senior journalist. After the meeting, shouted slogans demanding early justice for Dey. "We want CBI probe, "We want Justice"," the slogan that they were shouting outside the Press Club of India after the condolence meeting was over. They also took out a small march seeking justice for J Dey and speedy trial.
