However, officials of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi's (MCD) Health Department claim there is no need to panic as the figure is much less than what it was last year.
"Last year till November 1, as many as 1,100 cases had been reported. In contrast this year, only 391 cases have been reported till Monday," said Chief Medical Officer, Municipal Corporation of Delhi, NK Yadav.
Interestingly, the MCD is not taking credit for the low number. It thanks the warm temperature instead. "The previous months were warmer this year due to less-than-normal rains during the monsoon. Breeding of mosquitoes was controlled naturally," Yadav said.
But Yadav insisted the MCD is well-prepared to handle the dengue threat. "Our mosquito breeding checkers have been making rounds of their respective areas since May," said Yadav.
"MCD is also fumigating different parts of the city and special teams have been formed to carry out fumigation," Yadav said.
