Kolkata: Months ahead of West Bengal Assembly poll next year, an old RSS hand Dilip Ghosh today took over as the new BJP state president.

The BJP central leadership had yesterday announced the appointment of Ghosh as its new state president, replacing Rahul Sinha whose term had ended.

Ghosh is an old RSS hand and was a state BJP general secretary after joining the party some time back.

The development puts an end to months of speculation as to who will be the new president, or whether Sinha will be asked to continue till the poll is over.

Some leaders were also demanding a change in leadership on the ground that the party was steadily losing
its support after putting up a strong show in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

Handing over the charge to Ghosh, the party's outgoing state president, Rahul Sinha, expressed the hope that the party would be able to bring in a change under the leadership of the new state head.

Three former party state presidents Sukumar Banerjee, Asim Ghosh and Satyabrata Mukherjee were present in the formal hand-over of charge.

Ghosh said, "My first priority is to consolidate the party's organisational structure to fight against the Trinamool Congress, Congress and CPI(M). We will work together to strengthen the party and present before our political opponents a solid block."

Ghosh is confident that all protest-programmes against Saradha scam and other chit funds related issues would continue all over the state.

Sinha, who has been made a national secretary at the end of his term as state president, said, "We are all with the new president."
