Victim had been attacked thrice by contract killers
It was a love story that didn't end on a happy note. Two doctors who were in love and were planning to get married decided to eliminate their colleague as he was pressurising the lady doctor to marry him.
On Monday, the Delhi police arrested these two doctors as they had hired four persons to kill their colleague. The contract killers too were apprehendedu00a0 after they carried out the crime and severely injured the victim.
Those arrested were Dr. Vinod Kumar (31) and Dr. Meenakshi (29), both residents of Vijaynagar in Gaziabad and four contract killers Harish alias Teetu (21), Amit alias Kalu (21), Umesh (30) and Pawan (30).
On April 27, the police had received a call that Dr. Ravindra, a resident of Vijaynagar in Ghaziabad was shot at by some unknown persons near Vardhman Jain Hospital in Rohini. The severely injured Ravindra was immediately taken to Jaipur Golden Hospital.
During investigation, it was found that mobile phone recovered from the spot was operational and the ownership of its SIM card was traced to one Pawan, a resident of Aligarh, UP. A raid was conducted at the address and Pawan arrested.
"During interrogation, Pawan revealed that he and his associates had shot the victim at the behest of Dr. Vinod who wanted to kill Ravindra due to personal enmity. Vinod had hired Arvind and Rameshwar, both residents of Aligarh for the crime and it was they who had contacted Pawan, Umesh, Kaushal, Harish and Amit to carry out the actual killing. The killing contract amount was fixed at Rs. 2.50 lakh and Rs 25,000 was paid by Arvind on behalf of Dr. Vinod as advance to Pawan," said Chhaya Sharma, DCP.
Recce carried out
The police said that on April 26, Dr. Vinod, Kaushal, Pawan, Harish and Kalwa came to Sector-17, Rohini to carry out a recce of the Vardhman Jain Hospital ( where the victim and the accused worked) and the surrounding roads of the locality. The next day they again came to Sector-17 Rohini and Dr. Vinod handed them two country-made pistols and four live cartridges to carry out the crime.

"When Dr. Ravindra came out of the hospital, Harish made a phone call to Vinod to confirm the target and then fired at Ravindra in his back. While fleeing from the spot, the mobile phone used by Harish, which was provided by Pawan, fell near the spot. Later, several raids were conducted to arrest the accused. On sustained interrogation, Dr. Vinod confessed that DrRavindra was an old friend of Dr. Meenakshi and was pressurising her to marry him. However, Meenakshi had become friendly with Vinod and wanted to marry him instead. So they decided to get rid of Ravindra with the help of contract killers and later lead a married life together," the DCP said.
Twice lucky
The police on May 1, both were apprehended while they were on their way to Nainital and a loaded country made pistol, which was used in the crime, was recovered from their possession. "Dr. Vinod also disclosed that he had hired people on two earlier occasions too to kill Ravindra. Though, Ravindra had sustained bullet injuries on both the occasions, he had managed to survive. The victim is still reported to be in a critical condition.
