Working at Safdarjung Hospital head's house, 18-yr-old says she was repeatedly assaulted by another hospital staffer; medical superintendent says he is being blackmailed
She had come to Delhi with dreams of making a good life but 18-year-old Priyanka (name changed to protect her identity) had no clue her dreams would be crushed.
The girl from Jharkhand, who was working as a maid at the residence of Safdarjung Hospital's medical superintendent, Dr Jagdish Prasad, has alleged that she was raped twice by one of his staffers a few days ago.

Worse still, neither the police nor her employer have faith in her. They feel she is framing the senior doctor.

The placement agency that had employed the girl at the doctor's residence helped her file the complaint at the police station. However, no FIR has yet been registered.
According to the victim, the first incident took place on April 19, when the doctor was abroad. "Saab (Dr Jagdish Prasad) was not at home and I was working alone.
I was coming out of the toilet when Paswan caught me from behind and started forcing me into having sex with him. I tried to stop him but he forced himself on me. He raped me again on April 26. Satendra warned me that I should not tell anyone," Priyanka told MiD DAY.
The next day, Priyanka informed her agency and the officials visited her residence on April 28 after which she was taken to the Chanakyapuri police station.u00a0u00a0
"I told saab (Dr Prasad) about the incident but he did not believe me. The agency officials came to the house and took me with them to the hospital the following day.

My medical examination was conducted at Lady Hardinge Hospital (Lady Hardinge Medical College) after which I lodged a complaint with the NCW," the victim said.
However, Dr Prasad denied any such incident had taken place in his house. "If the maid was raped, she should have informed me about the incident immediately after I returned.
Or she should have informed my daughters, who are also medical students at AIIMS, and were at home during that time. She alleges she was raped on April 19 and 26.
And she says she informed her agency on the night of April 26. I returned the next day but the agency officials arrived at my home to take her away only on the evening of April 27.
Why did they wait for me to come? They should have complained that day itself. She and her agency are trying to frame me in connivance with a couple of NGOs who want to blackmail me and extort money," Prasad told MiD DAY.

The police complaint was filed on April 29.
Prasad said that the deputy commissioner of police had investigated the case but there was no circumstantial evidence to prove rape.
"The maid used to sleep with my daughters. And Satyendra sleeps in the outer part of the house. The allegations are baseless," Prasad said.
The NCW received the complaint (registration number: 8/4359/2009/NCW/YA/VG), a copy of which is with the MiD DAY, and is readying to take the case forward.
