Police said Rs 25,000 and a gold pendant weighing 15g was found missing from the flat. The Wanawadi police said the maid Sanju Sangram Tamang (30) was left in charge of two girls aged seven and nine at the flat. The father of the girls Sukhabahadur Jituba Tamang, a textile dealer, had left for Mumbai on a business trip. The police said Tamang's wife was also away at their village for some work.

The girls told the police that they were leaving for tuition classes when a man visited their home around 9 am.
When the girls returned home, they found the door closed. Repeated knocks on the door failed to elicit any response. That is when the girls informed the society members who in turn called the police control room.
