After much procrastination, the government said it would remove Malini, assistant director of the Forensic Science Laboratory, after the issue was raised in the Legislative Council on Wednesday.

Chairman Veranna Mattikatti then asked the government to respond, forcing Acharya to say that Malini would be discharged from duty.
Malini was accused of forging her testimonials to get the job at FSL. She had changed the date of birth on her SSLC marks card to be eligible for the post. This is apart from allegations that she had tampered with several FSL reports.
Then director general and inspector general of police Srikumar had recommended her dismissal last December but the government did not take action then.
Transparencyu00a0 International, a corruption watchdog, had taken the case to the Lokayuktau00a0 last week. MiD DAY had carried the report.
"It took a great deal of effort to convince the government to remove her. Now, we are demanding action against the officers who abetted her. The home ministry should take action against them also," said M C Nanaiah, who raised the issue in the Council.
