Drag tales

The poll fever coupled with a missing partner left RJ Rakesh Kumar with no time to breathe, but that didn't stop him from having fun

It's a very popular game that almost every kid plays in nursery. All of us have played the game, won some and lost some, and moved on. But Prithvi's still at it. No, nou2026 it's not 'Doctor, Doctor' but 'Hide and Seek' that I am talking about.u00a0 Prithvi has been re-living his childhood or rather living out his childhood fantasy by playing this game with me over the previous week. For certain strange and inexplicable reasons, my man...uh uh sorry...our man hasn't been turning up for our show. (Bengalooru Fatafat, every morning, 7-11 am only on 94.3 RadioOne) When asked, his responses were very similar to that of Jadoo (the alien) from Koi Mil Gaya. With the love that I hold for him, I let him go. More so for the undercover fact that, even we RJs are humans. We too have emergencies.

Here is where all the fun began. Running from pillar to post, restructuring segments on the show, keeping the voting fervour high, studding the show with stars and celebrities, adapting to last minute changes... phewwww... I felt like a freedom fighter at the end of it. But I survived thanks to RJ Pallavi and RJ Shilpa who came to my rescue. You've proved it my ladies. Only a woman can understand a man's pain! If at all, I happen to write an autobiography, I will dedicate the chapter, This Historic Week, to you two.u00a0

u00a0In the thick of this drama, I did have a moment to chuckle.u00a0 Iu00a0 chatted up our police commissioner Shankar Bidari on the eve of V day. We ran a campaign, on air, where we urged people to drag at least one reluctant person along to vote. I dialled the number of the city's top cop.

"Haaaaiii,u00a0 Rakesh," he said.

"Haaaaiii, sir," I replied. When I asked him, who he would drag along to the poll booth, he went: "Ha, ha hau2026 Rakesh, unfortunately, I don't have the habit of dragging anyone, but I am going to take my nephew and my wife along with me."

He probably resorts to dragging offenders only. Watch out Prithvi!

Catch more such encounters every morning on Bengalooru Fatafat, between 7 and 11 only on 94.3 RadioOne.
