Dudhani, who is said to be the brain behind ten such house break-ins, has told the police that he and his accomplices would choose their targets after noticing that there were no footwear kept outside houses and they would make burglary attempts.
Dudhani told the police that this was the trick he and his accomplices used to confirm that houseowners were not soon to return. Before his arrest, the Wanawadi police had arrested his accomplice Lakhansingh Rajputsingh Dudhani (20) and also fished out the chest stolen from jewellery shop, which was thrown into a water-filled quarry soon after the burglary.
Following a tip-off on Tuesday, the Hadapsar police team, involving Police Sepoy Suraj Shendage, Suhas Gaikwad, Amol Shingate, Mahesh Waghmare swooped down on Gosavi Vasti and started combing the area.
According to Inspector P N Mandhare, when the team tried to catch Dudhani, he whipped out a 13-inch dagger in a bid to make a leeway for himself. Though after a long chase, the policemen finally overpowered and arrested him. He was involved in more than 10 house break-ins and seven other burglaries registered in various police stations in the city and was absconding since November 2010.
