Wadekar swiftly moved aside and held on to the car window, but Pawar drove 200 metres before stopping. An attempt to murder case was slapped against Pawar, who was reeking of alcohol, at the Deccan police station.
The incident took place around 2 pm at Khandojibaba chowk yesterday. Pawar, a businessman from Panvel, was driving an Innova. He was on his way to Raigad.
"As the traffic lights at Khandojibaba Chowk were not working I was controlling the traffic," Wadekar said. "I saw an Innova waiting at the signal. When I instructed the vehicles to leave, all vehicles moved ahead but the Innova, thereby blocking traffic. I approached the vehicle, but out of the blue Pawar drove towards me. To save myself I jumped aside and caught hold of the window. Still, the driver didn't stop."
PSI Sangeeta Rokde, who is investigating the case, said there were four people in the car. All four were produced in court and remanded in magisterial custody.
