For all those working professionals who remember driving down after work from the precincts of Parel to Bandra 
Reclamation to Harmony for a "quick drink", which would invariably extend into a few hours considering the cheap booze prices and a semi-tolerable ambience, Masalacraft is not a shoddy departure from all those nostalgic moments.
The place has taken over the indoor and outdoor sections, but the alfresco region has only been revamped partially, still maintaining China Bistro's look, the restaurant that stood in that place for a brief period.
Wooden tables with dull orange settees and chairs are spread across a long, elongated space that is enveloped with shrubs and plants to give it a garden-like feel. Thankfully, we weren't complaining of any obtrusive mosquitoes. The indoors are splashed in a textured orange, and a mini bar is located at the end of the room.
The food: After we skimmed through the extensive range of Mughlai and seafood specialties, we zeroed in on Basil Garlic Paneer Tikka (Rs 120), a divinely soft preparation of malai paneer and a delectable Lemon Chicken (Rs 145) for appetisers. But, we felt like we had gone back in time as an instrumental ILU ILU resonated through the outdoor space, and when we flashed a glance at the cocktail price. Potent, well made Cosmopolitans and Daiquiris were for Rs 165! We decided to ignore the DDLJ-meets-Bob Marley symphonies and concentrate on our plates. Chatpata Jhinga (Rs 195) was a spicy concoction with thick gravy and went well with the Cheese Chilly Naan (Rs 30) The Maa Ki Daal (Rs 100) was just the way we like it rich, creamy and super fattening. One wrong decision: a "Western" dessert in this all-Indian joint; the Chocolate Brownie with Ice Cream (Rs 110) was a thorough disappointment.
Despite its cheeky menu where appetisers were smartly named "First Impressions", and the main course "Masterpiece", the food extended our expectations. For seafood lovers, the variety at Masalacraft is plenty
