A 25-Years-old Tanzanian woman was allegedly molested and captured on camera without her clothes by a male friend from an east African country, after which she was blackmailed into parting with a large sum of money to keep the images off the Internet.

The incident came to light 10 days after the alleged molestation at the home of the suspect, Samatar Ahmed Abdullahi (25), in Shalimar Hill Park society in Kondhwa.

The victim, a resident of Pimple-Gurav, lodged a complaint at the Kondhwa police station. Based on her complaint, an FIR was registered against Abdullahi and he was arrested on Tuesday evening.

Police Inspector Prasad Hasabnis from the Kondhwa police station said the Tanzanian woman had come to the city about two-and-half years ago. He said she was a Bachelor of Business Administration student at a reputable college, while the suspect was pursuing a distance-learning course.

Police Sub-Inspector Sunil Waydande, the investigating officer, said, "The victim and the suspect came to know each other six months ago after a mutual friend introduced them. Abdullahi started exchanging e-mails and chatting on social networking sites with the girl, and later the two started dating each other."

The police said on the evening of April 9, Abdullahi had invited the woman to his residence. They said that he began an academic discussion with the victim, but later threatened her with a knife and told her to remove her clothes. The police said he also captured images of her in a state of undress and created a video clip of it on his mobile.

Abdullahi then allegedly extorted $4,900 (about Rs 2.17 lakh) from her, threatening to upload her images and the clip on the Internet. Abdullahi was produced before Judicial Magistrate (First Class) A M Pathankar yesterday and the court remanded him in police custody till April 23.
