Examinations are not just about studying for hours on end. Rather, the right dose of sleep and food is equally important. Experts believe it is necessary that students take nutritious diet and sleep well to keep their mind and body fit. Studying throughout the night is a complete no-no.

Doctors said it is important to have minimum four hours and maximum eight hours of sleep during examinations. Dr Nitin Pise said: "When they do not get complete sleep they get exhausted and there are chances that they might forget whatever they studied. Students get hyper during examinations and they always make the mistake of studying late or throughout the night which is a big mistake."

He further said they should intake plenty of liquids and sugar to avoid dehydration.

As far as food is concerned, nutritious diet is necessary throughout the period of preparing for the examination. Shilpi Roy, a dietician, said that diet depends on individual capacity. "Students need more of protein, vitamin and carbohydrate to keep them fit and active. It's always better to avoid junk food because there are chances that they might fall ill," she said.

As mood swings are a common factor during exams it is important to modify the diet so that it does not affect the body.

Roy said that almond mixed with milk is a must for students because it increases brain power. "Curd, fruits and milk products also helps in brain development. If a child studies throughout the night, then parents should not serve them heavy breakfast or else they will have digestive problems," Roy said.u00a0
