A printed circular has now been issued by the Board, asking all junior colleges in Maharashtra division to create email ids for their respective colleges.
This year 3,22,193 students will be appearing for the HSC exams in Maharashtra, 10,000 more than last year. Speaking to Sunday MiD DAY, Laxmikant Pande, divisional chairman of MSBSHSE, Mumbai division, said, “We felt physically couriering notices and circulars to approximately 4,500 colleges was becoming a time consuming process. Besides it also added to our expenses. We are in the final stage of collecting email ids from colleges. Within the next 10 days, we will be able to launch the email service.”
Apart from information regarding exams, the Board will also use the email service to pass on information pertaining to curriculum change and teachers training programmes. Pande added that efforts were also on to collect mobile numbers of Head of the Departments (HOD) of colleges so that each of them can be sent an SMS once an email has been sent to a college.
Happy that the government had finally realised the true potential of technology, principals and academicians have given this initiative a thumb’s up. Dr Rita Basu, principal of SIES college of Arts, Science and Commerce said, “We received a notice from the board to open an email id and we did so immediately.”
Meera Kunthe, principal of St Joseph’s High School and Junior college in Kalamboli, added, “Currently we get a hard copy of all circulars relating to the exams through post. We have already submitted our college email id to the board.” Other principals too agreed that an emailed message would help them.u00a0
