Eight students of Alandi Nagar Palika, a government school in Alandi, were hospitalised after they consumed their midday meal.
The school had conducted a Republic Day rehearsal and khichdi was given at 10 am to the children. After an hour, the students started complaining of sickness and stomachache. They were immediately taken to YCM Hospital.
A nurse said, "It was confirmed after medical examination that it was a case of food poisoning. We have sent the samples for MLC (medico-legal case) and the reports are awaited."
But Prakash Kurade, a social activist, said, "Its not a case of food poisoning. If it had been so, then why the rest of the students weren't admitted? The children were sitting under the sun for a long time, which gave them sunstroke. Moreover, two of them had not had anything since morning. Not one child had vomitted on the way or after having arrived at the hospital."
The condition of children is said to be stable.
