Duo with well-paying jobs, who had taken to stealing to make an extra buck, was let off on bail after just one day in judicial custody

They had been involved in over 17 cases. Interestingly, the duo had well-paying jobs and earned over Rs 10,000 a month.

The police had arrested G S Sunil Kumar (25) and R Umesh (30) alias Ravi after a long pursuit, on June 15.

After spending a night in the lock-up, they were produced in court the next day, and sent to the Bangalore Central Jail. After spending only one night in the jail, the duo was let out on bail.

While Sunil, a Whitefield resident, and an employee with a major mobile service provider earned Rs 12,000, Umesh from Sanjeeveni nagar, worked at a showroom, earned Rs 20,000.

Apparently, the duo, both of who have families to support, had taken to thieving for extra money.

Both culprits, however, have already been released on bail after spending just one night in judicial custody.

An enraged police constable said, "We have arrested these crooks and they were kept in prison for just one night. They steal mangalsutras only to be let out on bail for just Rs 2,000."

He added, "It's very disappointing to let these guys go especially when they, as husbands know what a mangalsutra means."

They had over 500 gms of stolen gold on their persons. We have 14 complaints from Vijayanagar and three from Basaveshwara," said assistant sub-inspector Chandranna, Vijayanagar police station.

One of the victims, Poornima Shiv Prakash (37) who works at a jewellery store said, "At around 8.35 am on June 15, I was on my way to work when someone grabbed my chain and sped away in full speed."

The loot was not sold to pawn brokers the duo kept the best ones at home and the rest in a local bank.
